This smart Golden Retriever knew just what to do recently when he got an eye injury on Friday — he took himself to the vet!

The story trending in Thai media today tells of a dog, living just outside Bangkok, who hurt his eye and was found pawing at the door of the Petto Street clinic in Lam Lukka, Pathum Thani, to get himself stitched up, reported Thai News Agency.

The veterinarian on duty, Siramanee Wongpitayadisai, made quick work of patching up the mysterious pup’s eye and popped a cone on his head to keep him from disturbing the bandage. She also gave the pup a nickname, “Den,” which is Thai shorthand for Golden Retriever.

Next, she knew that she had to locate the dog’s owner since he was too tame to be a stray. In true Thai style, she plopped the pup on her motorcycle and drove around the neighborhood hoping he might get excited when he got close to home or someone might recognize the big, handsome creature.

When she had no luck with that, she created a Facebook post searching for the owner.

“While I was busy with a customer, I found Den standing outside the clinic, smiling, with his face covered in blood. I thought the owner had taken him here, but no one showed up after the dog,” said the Facebook post.

“We took him in and performed a checkup. His left eyelid was torn.

“Please share this post. We want him to meet his owner. We feel so sorry for him.”

As usual, social media worked like a charm and the pup and his person were soon paired up. The owner said the dog got out of the house unexpectedly and must have gotten hurt while he was enjoying his escape.

Newscasters and commenters were amazed at the intelligence of the dog and how he got help for his injury on his own.
