Today being International Day of the Girl, it is a good time to go on the record: Girls are awesome.
A French cosmetic company agrees, and is supporting science education for four young Thai women with the best gift possible – cash.
“For Women in Science” is a fellowship programme which funds research by female Thai researchers to help build out Thailand’s female scientific community.
It has offered fellowships to over 1,500 female scientists and researchers from 108 countries around the world, with the intention of advancing science and technology to improve life quality around the world.
With support from the Thai National Commission for UNESCO, L’Oreal Thailand has awarded THB250,000 for serious peer-reviewed projects which were selected based on their potential benefit.
In three categories, the four recipients were:

Chemistry: Dr. Taridaporn Buajarern for her contribution to “Nanotechnology for Eco-friendly Development in Textile Finishing.”

Life Science: Assistant Professor Dr.Salunya Tancharoen for her contribution to “Production of Human Monoclonal Antibodies Specific to Small Peptide Fragment for Treatment of Aggressive Periodontitis.”

Life Science: Dr. Jittima Piriyapongsa for her study “Application of Bioinformatics Techniques for Studying a Novel MicroRNA Regulatory Mechanism through Promoter Targeting.”

Material Science: Dr. Sorachon Yoriya for “Fabrication of titania nanotube array films and their potential use in biomedical application.”
