The largest living thing ever pulled from fresh water was recently discovered in Thailand.
A stingray weighing more than 350 kilograms was discovered in the Mae Klong River in Samut Songkhram province during the filming of an episode of “Ocean Mysteries” featuring nature television celebrity Jeff Corwin.
The 4.3 x 2.4-meter aquatic creature, which is thought to break the freshwater-catch record set by a 300-kilogram Mekong catfish also found in Thailand, is one of a number of moments being used to promote the television program.
In the style of the modern nature “documentary,” Corwin is sure to get his hands all over these creatures, as he can be seen gently fondling a rare Irrawady dolphin in another video posted yesterday.
Ocean Mysteries is currently airing in the United States on the ABC network.
The ray was measured and microchipped before being released into the wild sea. The dolphin was BBQ’d by the crew of the American program for their wrap party. No just kidding, we suspect it was sent on its way once Jeff was done petting it like a kitten.
