Ghosts and/or Slender Man caught on camera during Buddhist ordination

Two attention-whore ghosts totally photobombed the ordination rites of three monks in Pathum Thani province on Sunday, appearing in not just one, two or three photos – more like four.

A tall, black shadow assumed to be a type of ghost known as “Pret” was captured in two photos at Chantaram Temple on Sunday where the locals believe it showed up to beg for merit from the new monks.

By the sinister look of this Pret, we’d say that seems an optimistic assessment.

Pret is a type of “hungry ghost” believed to be the terrible afterlife of someone who was a jerk to their parents. Often described in folklores as “tall as a palm tree,” Pret have a terrible appetite that goes unsatisfied due to their impossibly small mouths.

Expat readers of course may see something else entirely. The apparition bears a striking similarity to the Slenderman, a child-hunting, forest spirit honored with blood sacrifice by farang around the world.

As to the possibility of a Pret-Slenderman link, we can only speculate and certainly will given any pretense to do so.

Besides the Preterman captured in photos, a woman-like shadow was found begging for something with a spectral wai in two, monk group-shots in Khaosod.
