Get out of town: MRT Purple Line to Nonthaburi to open next year

A section of MRT Purple Line, which will link between Bangkok and Nonthaburi, is set to open to the public in August after the route underwent a successful test run this morning.

The Purple line begins at Taopoon station in Bang Sue and runs up north to Bang Yai district in Nonthaburi, spanning a total of 23 kilometers.

While the route doesn’t link to any operating stations right now, it will connect with the MRT blue line at Bang Sue station along with the red and pink lines in the future.

The route composes of 16 elevated stations and will stop at key landmarks including the Ministry of Public Health, Siam Cement Group, and the new mega mall Central Westgate. The mall has a plan to build a direct skywalk from Talat Bang Yai station.

In the future, the Purple Line will also travel under the Chao Phraya river and head south from Taopoon station all the way to Samut Prakan province.

The trains will be opened for a public test run in May and fully launched in August, Thai PBS reported.
