Thailand’s consumer protection agency ahs reccomended that a television commercial for the Thai beverage Peptein should be pulled from circulation on the grounds that it is innaccurate and misleading.
The commercial, which essentially promises consumers they will become doctors upon drinking the product, is targeted at young students struggling with university admissions exams.
The product slogan is “Genius Generation.”
The Office of Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) sent a desist letter to Peptein’s distributor Osotspa, requesting that the company halt the commercial immediately. OCPB reviewed the ad after receiving numerous complaints from concerned physicians.
The ad in question is titled “Want To Be Doctors?” and features medical students endorsing the product. T
he ad was so outrageous that the Society of Medical Students of Thailand even filed a complaint with Osotspa demanding the commercial stop airing.
Public record shows that from 2007-2012 Thailand’s FDA fined Osotspa for previous Peptein advertisements that were in violation of regulations. The beverage is sold alongside bottled tea and energy drinks, reports Khaosod.
