Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha has accomplished a lot in his career. He was elevated through elite connections to become head of the armed forces. He seized power in a bloodless coup and gave himself absolute power to rule without a mandate for five years. He authored heart-stirring nationalist ballads endorsing his ongoing rule and rewrote the rules to remain prime minister after a flawed election.
Now, the 66-year-old retired general has his eyes on a new prize: Winning hearts through the Tik Toks that he’s heard are all the rage with dek social media.
Two years after he joined Facebook and Instagram, Prayuth is ready to expand his social media domination by introducing himself as a creator on Chinese video-sharing platform TikTok on Friday with a one-minute Happy Lunar New Year greeting, spokesperson Anucha Burapachaisri said today.
Anucha said that the video will show the former junta leader’s “soft side” with lovely, light-hearted music and will become another channel for him to reach his adoring public.
