Thais who traveled up north to camp at Doi Inthanon National Park last night were not left disappointed as the night sky lit up with hundreds of falling stars.
Around 400 people visited the national park in Chiang Mai to observe the shooting stars from Thailand’s highest mountain amid cool night breezes. The observatory site was set up by the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT).
Meteorgazers at the mountaintop enjoyed cool 5 degree Celsius weather, clear skies and no cloud cover as they observed showers of stars streaking across the sky from 9 pm onwards, with occasional bright fireballs.

The meteor shower peaked between 10pm and 11pm when observers saw as many as 240 falling stars per hour.

Thousands also flocked to to watch the enchanting display at Royal Observatories in Nakhon Ratchasima and Chachoengsao provinces, where NARIT had prepared telescopes to enhance the experience and opened the Full Dome Digital Planetarium System to the public, state media reported.
