A cake shop in central Chachoengsao province is going viral today thanks to its latest creation — a birthday cake topped with a large gecko-shaped centerpiece and decorated with tons of smaller butter cream lizards crawling on the sides.
Yum.
Parichart Pitsittasak, the owner of Cake Luk Maew bakery, said that she owes the idea to one of her customers, who she described as an “artistic guy” who came to her with a customized cake request for his girlfriend’s birthday.
The unusual decoration choice might be off-putting and unappetizing to some people, but it turns out the concept isn’t all bad — Parichart revealed that the customer’s order was actually for a “money-pulling cake,” with THB10,000 (US$300) hidden inside the delicious dessert.
“This young man had a weird idea … and we accepted the challenge,” Parichart told Coconuts in a phone interview this afternoon.

Her gecko cake photos were posted on Nov. 9, but has gone viral since this week, attracting 4,000 shares and nearly a hundred inquiries from curious customers.
Parichart, who has run a bakery business for seven years, said that her boyfriend was the mastermind behind the gecko cake — apparently it took him four hours to complete the frosting decorations, while she created the gecko-shaped base for him to work with.
The finished gecko cake was sold for THB1,600 (US$48).
“The hardest part about making this cake is we don’t like geckos! Our home has them. We always look the other way. But when we made this cake, my boyfriend had to put up a gecko photo for reference. I just tried not to go near him when he worked.”
“Not sure if the customer actually ate the cake — because I wouldn’t,” she chuckled.
Besides the now-famous gecko cake, Parichart’s shop has also accepted some other creative customized orders, including a lottery-themed cake and a “chicken rice” cake.

“We try to deliver what customers request — no matter how many hours it [will] take to make it happen,” she said.
