First grader Chanachai “Gaga” Kongpol, 6, tragically died late Wednesday afternoon, two days after he went into a coma from being forgotten in the cab of a school truck for five hours.

Lacking oxygen to feed his brain, doctors in the intensive care unit were not able to resuscitate Gaga, a student at Wat Choeng Len School in Ayutthaya, a province north of Bangkok.

Gaga’s mother, Funta Boon-ngam, 33, decided to donate her little boy’s viable heart valves and both eyes to help other patients in need. His body was transferred for autopsy to Thammasat University Hospital before it will be returned to his family for the funeral, reported Bangkok Biz News.

Funta said, in tears, that she is coping with this tragic situation and wants all school drivers to be more careful. The relatives who anxiously waited for updates were devastated and in mourning.

Boonlerd Wattakee, 57, the school driver, who didn’t have a license, will be charged with negligence causing death, in addition to not having a permit to drive public transportation.
