Fuel your (mis)fortune with lottery tickets at PTT gas stations

Pull into any PTT gas station and you are promised to find a 7-Eleven to the right, an Amazon Cafe in the back and toilets to the left.

Soon motorists will find government-approved lottery ticket sellers at all of the petrochemical giant’s 1,500 stations throughout the kingdom.

PTT said yesterday it reached agreement with the Government Lottery Office to make space available for selling tickets, particularly for handicapped sellers.

CEO Pailin Chuchottaworn said the the company wants to help the vendors and bring down the overpriced tickets, ThaiPBS reported.

The company had proposed the idea last month to help a frustrated government effort to control ticket prices.

Not risking a PR-backlash, the company has offered to pay for unsold tickets from handicapped vendors.

It’s another attempt to rein in the regular and rampant practice of inflating lottery ticket resale prices by vendors, who price them depending on the perceived luck of the digits. The military government has made ending the practice a priority while vendors have dug their heels in, saying it would make the system unworkable.

Vendors who sell at the gas stations must agree to sell their tickets at the official price of THB80.
