A French national was arrested yesterday at a Bangkok hotel after he was caught on CCTV stealing money from an Egyptian tourist at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Rehahlia Toufik, 33, was reportedly seen taking the bag containing US$10,170 (THB327,000) belonged to Egyptian Mohamed Ibrahim.

Ibrahim told police he forgot the cash bag at a CAT Telecom shop after he bought a SIM card, and when he returned, the bag was missing, so he sought help from police.

Police tracked Toufik down and arrested him at the unnamed hotel where he had checked in.

Police recovered the remaining US$9,200 (THB296,000) cash on the suspect and found the T-shirt he wore when he allegedly stole the bag. Toufil was charged with nighttime theft, T News reported.
