A French national was arrested Monday for suspicion of the rape of a British female tourist, 18, on Koh Tao last Wednesday.
Yohann Michael Tunga Buaga, 26, has been charged for the alleged crime. He admitted to meeting the woman accusing him, and of having consensual sex with her. She, however, says she woke up with him and believes she was drugged and raped. She claims she woke up with pain to her genitals, reported The Sun.
At that time, she reached out to friends in the UK and her parents, in turn, reached out the the embassy, who contacted police. Island police took the girl back to the room where the incident happened but the suspect was no longer there.
Mbouka denied that there was an assault, allegedly saying that he is a police officer in France and showing selfies he had taken with the victim on the night in question. He left the resort island shortly after the event and was arrested and is being held in Koh Samui, according to Bangkok Post.
The police are now conducting forensic tests. If the man is found guilty, the punishment for rape is a prison term of four to 20 years and a fine between THB8,000 (US$256) to THB40,000 (US$1,282).
