Yes, it’s that time of the year when the government showers the public with marginally useful perks.
Possibly more helpful than military-backed massages among the bounty of “New Year’s gifts … intended to increase the Thai people’s happiness,” is free airport parking for those heading out of town.
From 8am on Dec. 27 to 5pm on Jan. 2, parking fees will be waived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport’s Zone C parking area. Located on the eastern side of the airport, it can accommodate more than 700 vehicles.

The parking lot is pretty far from the terminals, so free shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes on top of the regular shuttle that stops at the lot. Passengers heading to the departure hall will be dropped off at Gate 5 on the fourth floor. Arriving passengers can get picked up at Gate 5 of the arrival hall and the second floor for a trip to the lot.
For further information, contact Airport of Thailand’s contact center at 1722, available around the clock.
Other New Year’s freebies to watch out for: Free use of metro expressways, visits to cultural institutions and rides to the temples many visit to welcome the new year in prayer.
