Last night, four more suspects were apprehended for the Bangkok mall shootout that killed one Indian tourist* and injured four others on Sunday night.
In addition to these arrests, a total of six suspects are now in police custody for the gang shooting outside Pavillion Watergate mall, said Acting Metropolitan Police Chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Sutthipong Wongpin.
On Sunday night, witnesses saw about 20 young men emerged from a nearby snooker club armed with guns, knives and wooden sticks. Three of the men opened fire at their rivals, causing pedestrians to scatter in different directions.
Police said the fight was between two rival gangs.
Gakhrejr Dheeraj, a 42-year-old Indian tourist who was waiting to board his bus at the mall, died, while four others, including one Laotian national, one Indian national, and two Thai men were injured.
The Thai government paid the deceased victim’s family THB1 million (US$30,000) in compensation.
An injured Thai man, Pornthep Poompuang, 23, is one of six suspects now in police custody.
Preecha Sakudompaisan, 28, turned himself in during the wee hours of Tuesday night. The four suspects nabbed last night were: Pramuk Chansananon, 34; Somchai Saepang, 35; Piromwech Apinorachat, 32; and Thatchakorn Pornpakdee, 47, Post Today reported.
Police are working on identifying other members, including the person who fired an AK-47 at the scene.
*Editor’s Note: Initials reports indicated that a Laotian tourist died from the shooting. An official from Bangkok’s Erawan Center, the dispatch center for emergency medical services, later confirmed that he survived.
