A magical sock for diabetics, reusable sheets to clean spilled oil and bacteria-detecting scanner for food safety were among inventions by four Thai women recognized at the 42nd International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva.
Dr Kosum Chansiri received gold medal recognition for a sensor which can detect dangerous bacteria such as shigella and E. coli in fresh food at the invention exhibition.
A silver medal was awarded to Dr. Pornanong Aramwit of Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science. Pornanong invented a type of sock which removes dead cells from the feet of diabetics. She hopes the product will be brought to the market at a low price and will save diabetics expensive and painful procedures.
Dr. Suwadee Kongparakul’s rubber sheets, which can be used and reused to clean up chemical spills from water, won a gold medal, as did Dr. Soamshine Boonyananta’s clay made from mussel shells.
