Sorrawee “Jazz” Nattee, otherwise known as Miss Tiffany Universe 2009, entered into the monastic life this weekend. Jazz was ordained as a monk at a temple in Songkhla province, his hometown.
Earlier rumors about Jazz’s ordination drew a skeptical response from Thai Buddhists, as it is common knowledge that a ladyboy cannot be ordained. However, recent pictures of the transsexual beauty pageant champion, who is now known as Phra Maha Viriyo Bhikku, have silenced some of these suspicions.
After the removal of his silicon breast implants, Jazz appears like a typical Thai male. He never went through genital reconstruction surgery, which makes him qualified to join the monastic community.
Jazz studied dharma for the past two years before making his decision to take the lifelong mantle of a Buddhist monk. By accepting his ordination, he aims to repay his parents.
