A former beauty queen has been accused of beating her 16-year-old maid to death in 2012 and hiding the body, according to police.

An arrest warrant was put out for Krisana “Mona” Suwanpithak, 45, on Saturday. She was arrested Sunday at 5am in Chachoengsao province by members of Crime Suppression Subdivision 5, reported Bangkok Post.

The investigation began recently when the deceased maid’s mother, Janjira Srisak, 48, approached the Paveena Foundation, a group that helps female victims, for assistance, telling them that her daughter Jariya Srisak, 16, also known by the nickname “Nam,” disappeared five years ago while working for Krisana in Bangkok.

Their investigation uncovered allegations that the former beauty queen had beaten her maid to death and buried the body on a property owned by her family outside the city in Phetchaburi, which has since been sold to another party.

Acting on this information, police were able to find the body and dig it up. Krisana was brought in for questioning yesterday where she allegedly appeared disoriented and perhaps under the influence of drugs. She is being held by police on charges of injuring a person and causing their death. As details emerge, she may be charged with premeditated murder and concealing a corpse as well.

She has had allegedly confessed to the crime and said that she had accomplices including her brother, a village head in Phetchaburi, her daughter, and a third person employed by the family.

They have been questioned and denied involvement in the murder but allegedly admitted to helping bury the body.

They also told police about Krisana’s bad temper and that she had often beaten her maid, leaving bruises and other injuries.

In the incident that allegedly ended the young maid’s life, during Songkran 2012, Krisana allegedly beat the girl severely with a can of air freshener. The girl was not provided with medical care and, according to the three alleged accomplices, died the next day from her injuries.

Another article in the Bangkok Post states that Krisana is not known to have a job but has a rich boyfriend and spends time gambling in the casinos in the border town of Poipet, Cambodia.

Little is known about her past as a beauty queen, only that she competed decades ago in pageants and, according to Thairath, made it to the top 10 in a pageant on at least one occasion.
