A foreign man plunged six floors to his death inside a popular Pattaya City shopping mall yesterday afternoon, to the horror of locals and tourists who served as involuntary witnesses.

At about 5:30pm yesterday, Pattaya police received a report that a roughly 50-year-old, white male had fallen from the sixth floor to ground level of the Central Festival shopping mall in Pattaya City’s Bang Lamung district.

Authorities arrived to find an unresponsive foreigner who had broken his neck and fractured his skull, among other injuries, reported Siamrath. He was rushed to Pattaya Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police say he was carrying no identification.

A store employee and witness told police they saw the man climbing the roughly 1.5 meter barrier prior to his plunge.

Though they tried to rush over after noticing the man, it was too late — he let go of the railing and plunged to the floor below. Panicked screams could be heard from many onlooking shoppers.

Police told local media that they are currently trying to identify the man and track down his relatives, who they plan to question about his medical history.

Sadly, this is not the first time someone has commuted suicide in Central Festival. Three years ago, a 71-year-old French man also lept to his death from the sixth floor. Only months before that, another foreigner tried to do the same, though in that instance, the man was ultimately talked down by passersby.

As of press time, Pattaya police had not responded to requests for comment.
