According to preeminent American entertainment rag Variety, Thailand’s star is on the rise.
Michael J. Burmeister, a Los Angeles-based film location manager, told Variety that the production design in Thailand is good and that soundstages in the country are cheap and of a high quality. Surprisingly, the infrastructure at these studios is as good as those found in LA.
Due to these appealing circumstances, the Kingdom has been visited by a multitude of foreign productions over the past several years. In 2012 alone, 636 foreign productions shot in Thailand – a 45% increase from the previous year.
For Thailand, the film and television industry is a large economic contributor, adding USD2.2 billion to the country’s coffers. Film productions also produced 86,600 new jobs in 2011.
