Six people have died and two people are missing after severe floods ravaged several provinces in recent days, disaster officials said this morning.

More than 71,000 households have been affected by flooding caused by tropical storm Dianmu, which hit upward of 30 provinces in the north and central regions, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation announced Wednesday.

Lopburi was one of the hardest-hit provinces with five residents confirmed dead and one missing. In Phetchabun, one resident was found dead and another reported missing.

On Monday, authorities in Bangkok and the northern metro outskirts of Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani were warned of possible flooding. Bangkok Gov. Aswin Kwanmuang assured the public that his team has been monitoring the water levels in the Chao Phraya River while water pumps and sandbags stand by.
