The first rule of fight club is that you do not talk about fight club.
That’s also a truism for 8-Bit Bangkok, an underground cult of gamers no one talks about, but maybe because they just haven’t heard about it to talk about it.
This Sunday evening at Jam is for those who’ve never left their bedroom since age 12 and prefer staring angstily out the window at the people stuck in traffic, motorbike that just ran over a 6 year old’s toe, drunk locals and even more-drunk farangs, all of whom seem to be having a better time.
If you’ve stayed locked within your “Lair of Doom” because there’s no real “Achievement” for opening its door, the Guardians of Geekdom have a safe place for you to get it on like Donkey Kong and enjoy gaming and drinking in the company of fellow party members.
It’s “Arcade Beat ‘Em Up Night” this month at 8-Bit Bangkok, an event not for the faint of thumbs. This challenge of challenges consists of side-scrolling, button-bashing arcade fighters with a buffet of games including Undercover Cops, Battle Circuit, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs, The Simpsons Arcade Game, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the importantly distinct Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time.

These are the “fun” fighters, not their elite-skill brethren requiring a delicate understanding of Hadoken vs. Shoryuken.
Regardless, it will be just like Fight Club, but instead of instead of abs and bloodshed it will have beers and a huge projector screen.
Better than chatting with your latest “friend” from Sims 4 as you jerk your joystick.
The quest for fun begins at 7pm on Sunday at Jam.
