A massive fire erupted at a high-rise building that was under construction in Bangkok last night.

The fire broke out at around 11pm at the top story of S-Oasis, a 35-story premium retail complex located in Soi Vibhavadi-Rangsit 9, that was expected to be completed in the coming months.

According to Lt. Col. Pairat Tongdonnoi of Bang Sue Police, it took two hours for the roughly 40 firefighters to control the blaze. No construction workers were at the site when the incident happened and there were no reports of injuries.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire that was initially believed to be the result of a short circuit at the top floor.

The mixed-use project belongs to real estate firm Singha Estate PLC and is anticipated to finish in early 2022.

The latest incident comes two months after a factory in the Bangkok metropolitan area exploded and caught fire, killing a volunteer firefighter and injuring dozens. The incident forced hundreds of residents within at least a 10-km radius to evacuate.
