This morning, a thick pillow of smoke swept through the Chatuchak district as fire destroyed more than 20 shops in the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Officials said that the blaze started at 7am at a shop in the 6th section on the Kampheng Phet 2 Road side.
Firefighters reportedly extinguished the flames within 45 minutes. The traffic around the area is returning to normal. There are no reports of injuries or casualties. Officials are yet to determine the cause of fire.
Chatuchak Market covers 35 acres of land and has roughly 15,000 stores.
