FIFA announces latest world rankings

In a recent update to the FIFA World Rankings, the usual suspects are riding high while Thailand is struggling to compete with its neighbors.

Unsurprisingly, World Cup winner Germany is ranked in first place. While fellow finalists Argentina is second. The Netherlands and Brazil, who both made it into the semifinals, turn up at number four and six, respectively. Meanwhile, the tournament’s surprise package, Colombia, settles for third place. Spain, the previous champions, ranks eighth despite being knocked out in the first round to everyone’s surprise.

The Thai national team, who didn’t make it to the summer’s showpiece in Brazil, is tied with India at 158th place globally and 31th place continentally. However, Thailand still manages to hold onto seventh place out of twelve ASEAN Football Federation countries.

As if things aren’t bad enough, rivals Vietnam, Myanmar, Singapore, and Malaysia all rank higher than Thailand in FIFA’s latest list. Only Laos and Cambodia are ranked lower at 169th and 199th, respectively.
