A new campaign eggs on Thais to eat more eggs each year. The campaign’s goal is to have each person increase their egg intake to 300 eggs per year by 2018.
The campaign’s slogan just seems to be an affirmation of how Thais eat anyway: “Eat egg every day. Put egg in everything we eat.”
Unsurprisingly, this initiative has been spearheaded by the Association of Chicken Egg Producers, Traders and Exporters. We’re sure they just want you to enjoy your meals more by adding a fried egg to the top, and we’re sure it’s not because this association of egg farmers wants to make more money. No, never.
Mongkol Pipatsatayawong, the association’s president, announced that an average Thai eats a measly average of 220 eggs a year compared to 340 eggs in China, 330 eggs in Japan, and 300 eggs in Malaysia. Heck, even the Americans are beating Thailand by consuming a whopping 290 eggs per person each year, according to Thai PBS.
C’mon. If you won’t eat more eggs to put baht in egg farmers pockets, then do it for nationalism. Let’s win this thing. Arteries be damned!
