Coconuts Bangkok is taking a look outside of the capital here, with a selection of photos from the Phuket Vegetarian Festival which ended last week. Fraser Morton captures the added drama that a torrential monsoon rainstorm brought to the annual Jui Tui Shrine procession on the early morning of Oct. 3 in Old Phuket Town in this series of shots. The rains did nothing to dampen the fervor of the mah songs –entranced devotees who torture themselves to shift evil from the community – who pierced their cheeks with the usual reckless abandon to bring everyone good luck. WARNING: Photos are graphic. Scroll down at your own risk. Enough said, we’ll let the photos do the talking here.
