The father of a conjoined twin baby born with two heads is taking legal action against a doctor who failed to identify the deceased infant’s impossible abnormality through ultrasound.
Pachern Passorn, the baby’s father said when he took his wife to receive prenatal care at Plangyao Hospital in Chachoengsao province six months ago, the doctor told him his baby had two heads. The doctor transferred his wife to Puttasothorn Hospital, where their new doctor said she might be carrying twins as scans showed two vertebral columns. He was unable to tell if their bodies were attached to each other.
On Saturday, his wife gave birth to a female baby with two heads after a C-section at Puttasothorn. The baby’s lungs failed and she passed away on Sunday.
The couple is now going through a difficult time grieving for their baby’s death, and they are seeking to hold the doctor accountable for misreading the ultrasound. Paveena Hongsakul, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, has helped draw attention to the case.
Dr. Prasit Tangmana, the director of Puttasothorn Hospital, reveals the baby suffered from genetic disorders and said hospital is sorry for her death and will be responsible for all the expenses, Khaosod and Channel 7 reported.
