The father of Rodsarin Plianla, the pregnant woman who was run over by an Airport Rail Link train last year, is demanding THB30 million (about US$940,000) in compensation.

Weera Plianla filed his lawsuit yesterday against Transport Governor Arkhom Termpittayapaisith and the operators of the Airport Rail Link including SRT Electrified Train Co., Ltd., State Railway of Thailand, and Ministry of Transport.

The trial is scheduled for July 23.

Weera said that his 32-year-old daughter was six-months’ pregnant with a baby boy when she fell onto the tracks and was killed instantly by an approaching train at Baan Thap Chang station on the morning of June 19, 2017.

A video of the incident shows that she was lying on the tracks for roughly 50 seconds from the time she fell until being run over by the train to the horror of fellow passengers on the platform.

Police said her husband, Piyapong Robkob, told them Rodsarin had fainted often during her pregnancy and that he had driven her to the train station that morning so she could get to her accounting job in Silom area.

The driver had pulled the emergency brake, but the train was unable to stop in time.

Suthep Panpeng, a vice president of SRT Electrified Train, told reporters last year that after pulling the emergency brake, the train needed about 120 meters to stop, but Rodsarin was just 50 meters from the train.

Weera claimed that the operator’s insurance had paid THB400,000 (about US$12,500) compensation to him and he had been ignored when demanding more money.

Weera, who is also calling for the train company to install barriers to prevent another such incident but stopped short of claiming negligence, said he’s miserable and still “misses his daughter all the time.”

His lawyer, Pholthep Puanya, said that the compensation was to make up for a lifetime of traumatization and the loss of Weera’s daughter and unborn grandson, Daily News reported.
