Will Dom and friends take down smugglers trafficking vulnerable populations? Bring a swift end to Thailand’s 15-year insurgency? Or will they settle down to teach English and make visa runs?
Audiences will have to wait until April 2020 to find out how the Thai south will fit into the ninth installment of the Fast and Furious film franchise, which begins shooting there next month. Longtime local production manager Piya Pestonji was glad-handing with top Krabi provincial officials yesterday to talk about plans to shoot the film in four southern provinces starting July 1.
The 26-day shoot will take place in parts of Phuket, Phang Nga, Krabi, and Surat Thani, according to state media, which said the production would bring over THB340 million (US$10.1 million) into the kingdom and promote its image abroad.
No details of the film’s plot have been made public, but series regulars Vin Diesel, Tyrese, Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster are tipped to return. FF6 director Justin Lin is returning to helm the film as well as a planned 10th installment.
No mention was made of which cast members would be shooting next month, but we’ll undoubtedly hear about some sightings next month.
