Starting in December, the cost of riding a taxi more than one kilometer will increase.
For the first time in about two decades, taxi fares will increase for travel distances of more than one kilometer.
Although meters will still start at THB35, the fare will increase thereafter by one-half baht to THB2 per kilometer and for idle time.
The Ministry of Transport has told taxi drivers a commensurate increase in quality of service is expected.
A second round of fare increases is scheduled for May following an evaluation of services, Thai PBS reported.
