The family of the young man suspected of dismembering his mom and storing her remains in a fridge said they doubted he could have committed the crime as they retrieved his body today.
While at Siriraj Hospital to pick up the body of Sira Somdech, who shot himself and later died, his aunt told reporters she still doesn’t believe the 20-year-old university sophomore could have committed such a heinous crime and urged people to wait for more evidence before jumping to conclusions.

“I want everything to be revealed clearly first. Once everything is revealed, we’ll accept the facts,” she said, without being named. “But right now there might be other factors for the officials to consider. So I don’t think we should jump to any conclusions yet.”
The aunt said she knew Sira well for she had raised him until he was about 15, after which he moved in with his mother, 42-year-old Yuri Taowan, at the home where her dismembered body was found Monday.
Sira’s body will taken for funeral ceremonies at a temple in Bangkok’s Lak Si district.
While unfounded conspiracy theories about what happened swirl online, the police aren’t swayed.
Deputy metro police chief Ittipol Atchariyapradit said yesterday that all evidence points to Sira as the murderer. Col. Ittipol said security cameras in the area showed no one else entering the home between the time she was last known to be alive Sunday evening and her friend discovering dismembered parts in the family fridge Monday morning.
Ittipol added that be believes the crime occurred after 8pm on Sunday, when Yuri was last heard from alive by a friend.
As police continue to piece together the circumstances of the murder, they believe Sira used a knife and hammer to dismember Yuri’s body in the bathroom, where traces of blood were found all over. He also washed some body parts that he placed in plastic bags to store in the freezer. Yuri’s breasts had also been also removed when her body was discovered.
Ittipol said he’s 100% sure Sira commited the crime. The final autopsy results are still pending as investigators work to establish the crime’s motive.
A close friend of Sira told Khaosod yesterday that Sira would get jealous and protective whenever men hit on Yuri. She said that Yuri was recently stressed because Sira had yelled at someone she was seeing, causing mother and son to argue.
But the two fought about other things as well, the friend said, adding that Yuri was stressed about Sira’s online gambling. She did not have any clue what could have led to murder.
