A man driving a Bangkok taxi confessed to raping a Chinese business woman before making off with her THB2,000 in cash and mobile phone.

On Saturday, police took cabbie Chaiyapat Klinsukon, 32, to perform a crime re-enactment on Kanchanaphisek Road, where he allegedly assaulted the 42-year-old Chinese passenger, who was looking to start a business in Thailand, Thairath reported.

According to Kanna Yao police, the driver was not a licensed cabbie and the license plate on his car was also a fake, reported Thai PBS.

According to police, Chaiyapat picked up the victim from Nawamin Soi 103 on June 28, but when the woman noticed he was taking a detour from her destination, Nuanchan Soi 32, she opened the maps app on her phone to double-check. Chaiyapat grabbed the phone from her and threatened the woman, demanding her valuables with a knife, police said.

The cabbie then drove off to Kanchanaphisek Road, stopped on the roadside, and allegedly raped her on the backseat. After that, he dropped off the victim near the scene and escaped.

The “cabbie” is currently in police custody.
