Facebook helps people connect, and last night the social media giant helped reunite a mother and son as they arranged their first meeting in 33 years in Hat Yai, Songkhla province.

Wipawadee Thisorn, 54, traveled for two days on a bus from Chiang Rai to the southern city to meet her son, Prinya Thisorn, 36, after she found him on Facebook.

Prinya, who, waited for his mom at the bus station, got on his knees once he saw her for the first time. The mother and son then hugged each other as they burst out in tears.

Wipawadee bought a wristwatch for her son as a promise that they’d never be apart again. Prinya then took her to his home, where they dined on Khanom Chin with all his neighbors.

Wipawadee said that when her son was three years old, there was a conflict in their family, causing her to divorce her husband. She still got to see her son at first, but it became difficult as she worked in Bangkok while Prinya lived with his dad in Chaing Rai, Sanook reported.

She said she had a difficult life and had to travel between provinces to make a living; therefore, she lost contact with her son.

This past Sunday, Wipawadee typed her son’s name into Facebook’s search bar and unexpectedly found him. After they talked on Facebook and confirmed that they were indeed mother and son, they arranged a meeting in Hat Yai.

Wipawadee said she never thought she would meet her son again, and she always felt guilty for not raising him.

Meanwhile, Prinya said he was happy to meet his mom because he initially thought she was dead. He had always said prayers and made merit for her and had never been upset with his mom for leaving.

From now on, Prinya said he’ll take care of his mom, and they’ll never be apart again.
