Julia Pastrana was a Mexican woman born with a genetic condition, hypertrichosis terminalis, which meant her face and body were covered in black hair. Her ears and nose were also unusually large. She was sold as a child to be exhibited in freak shows around the world. Julia attracted the attention of lots of influential people, including Charles Darwin who included her in his book about animal variation.
Based on true events, “The True History of the Tragic Life and Triumphant Death of Julia Pastrana, the Ugliest Woman in the World”, written by Shaun Prendergast and organized by Peel the Limelight, breaks with regular theater-experiences and tells the story of her through the audience’s senses of touch, smell and hearing, but not sight.
This sensory performance will let the audience, who are blindfolded, understand Julia’s life and make them think about the human perception, discrimination, and exploitation Julia suffered.
Tickets for the play are THB500 and THB350 for students and can be booked from the website
