An ex-honor roll student who couldn’t find a job was arrested for snatching a foreigner’s purse in Pattaya, police said in a press conference today.

Police tracked down the 27-year-old graduate, only identified as Jakkapong, via CCTV footage and identified him as the thief who stole a bag from a male foreigner while he was having a coffee at Grand Hall Market in South Pattaya on Nov. 17.

Jakkapong was arrested yesterday at Chaimongkol Temple. Police found the victim’s bag, wallet, Samsung phone, credit card, and passport in his possession, along with the clothes matching the suspect in the CCTV, Sanook reported.

Jakkapong said he has recently completed a bachelor’s degree in hotel and tourism with honors from a university in Bangkok, before coming to Pattaya to find a job.

Broke and unemployed, he decided to steal from a tourist.

Jakapong apologized to the victim at the press conference.
