Everybody suddenly offended by ‘Naked Sushi’

Every Thai netizen is suddenly offended by a year-old video of Nyotaimori-style body sushi service in Pattaya, at least according to every local media outlet.

State-owned Thai News Agency started beating the drum yesterday by showing screenshots from a promo video for “Tokyo Kids,” where sushi is eaten from a woman’s body, in Pattaya’s Soi Kophai 10, and it didn’t take long for every local website and blog to post and draw attention to the naked sushi place this morning.

“Most people feel the service is inappropriate because they use a woman to lie naked on the table as if she is a sexual object, causing foreigners to have a negative view toward Thai women,” claimed a news report yesterday, as nothing titillates like a little manufactured outrage.

By foreigners, the report probably meant the bored-looking bald men in the video, who came to Pattaya and certainly did not expect to see such a salacious service there.

Coconuts Bangkok scoured the internet to find the outrage of “many” people, but the only naked sushi discussion was found on the popular Postjung forum, and nobody sounded offended. Mostly a little excited or disgusted by the hygienic implications.

Locals demanded authorities inspect the restaurant, the news report added.

The naked sushi place “Tokyo Kids” obviously has been operating for at least one year. Since the story went viral, their website has been taken down.
