In the wake of the rape and murder of 6-year-old “Nong Cartoon” near Bearing BTS station, many have called for more responsive police help.
A foundation involved in the issue of missing children delivered 28,000 signed petitions to the Royal Thai Police this afternoon requesting the establishment of a centralized, technology-driven missing persons center.
Eakkalak Lumchomkae, the head of the Mirror Foundation’s missing persons project and Peitai Kanniyom, author of the “Find People” petition on Change.org called on authorities to set up a special investigation team throughout the nation to provide quick responses to cases of missing people, without any waiting periods.
Last week police agreed to end a policy which required parents to wait 24 hours to report children as missing.
Police Gen. Jarumporn Suramanee, an advisor to the national police force said they will assign officers in all sectors to handle missing persons cases and increase the public’s awareness. The Royal Thai Police are considering developing a smartphone application, he added, for citizens to send in clues and facilitate tracking down missing persons, Sanook reported.
