Error 404: Netizens hack down more government sites over Single Gateway Plan

Thailand internet users joined forces and knocked down at least four government websites this afternoon to voice their disapproval with the single gateway plan.

The Facebook community “Citizens against Single Gateway” launched its operation at 1pm today and managed to bring down four sites out of six for a solid hour.

The six websites targeted are:

1. Royal Thai Government (http://www.thaigov.go.th)

2. Internal Security Operations Comment (http://center.isocthai.go.th)

3. Ministry of Defence (http://www.mod.go.th/Home.aspx)

4. Ministry of Interior (http://www.moi.go.th)

5. Royal Thai Army (http://www.rta.mi.th/RTAweb/rtaweb.html)

6. Comptroller General’s Department (http://www.cgd.go.th/wps/portal/cgd)

Last night the anti-single gateway community also attacked the website of Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), causing it to collapse for several hours from 7pm.

The hackers have precipitated a pretty simple question: If the government can’t even protect its own websites from hackers, how can they be expected to set up and manage a single internet gateway for all of Thailand’s bandwidth?

Oh the delicious irony!
