The Englishman who was the victim of an attack at a beer bar in Pattaya has called for the woman who attacked him to be jailed.
David Lodge, 64, gave an interview to ThaiVisa and revealed that he has lived in Thailand for over ten years with his wife as retirees and that he never compared Pattaya’s Patsy Beer Bar’s prices to those of 7-Eleven.
Lodge, who was attacked by a female bartender and hit with her shoe, said that he lives in Hua Hin and has been unfairly made fun of in the English press and on the ThaiVisa forums following the incident. He noted that well-known newspapers The Mirror and The Sun called him a “Cheap Charlie” for his supposed complaining about beer prices.
On the contrary, Lodge said that he never complained about the prices at the bar, but that it was his wife, Mary, 55, who took issue with the bill, which was about THB600, according to Lodge.
He went on to say that they hadn’t even been drinking beers, but had cocktails. They were miffed because they had been charged THB350 for a vodka tonic, but there was also a beer on their bill that no one had ordered.
When the bar refused to remove the beer from the bill, Mary mentioned that the police could sort it out, and that’s when the bar worker began to attack him, he said. He claims that he was not just attacked by the woman, but that a Thai man had grabbed him and restrained him while the woman hit him in the face with her shoe until his face was bloody.
Lodge noted that the incident was all on video and that the police were very helpful. The expat said that the woman was due to appear in court and he thought she had a police record for assault already.
He went on to say that he paid for his own hospital treatment for the attack, which left him with a black eye and a THB2,500 bill, for which he is not seeking damages.
But he did say that he wanted his attacker locked up for at least a week to teach her a lesson.
He finished by saying that he loves Thailand and his life here and has no intention of leaving. He also wanted the public to know that he’s not a “Cheap Charlie.”
