English traveler in Chiang Mai car accident needs A- blood type donations

A week into her gap year, 21-year-old Lucy Hill from Bury, England, met an accident in Chiang Mai when a car hit the moped she was riding.

She is now in critical condition and being held at the intensive care unit of Rajavej Chiang Mai Hospital.

She is suffering from a broken pelvis and brain hemorrhage, according to Manchester Evening News. Because she is anemic, she needs constant blood transfusions.

But her family and friends have been finding it hard to source her blood type (A-) in Thailand.

Using social media, they have been calling for blood donations from people in Thailand.

On Facebook, Darren Burns, a friend of Lucy, wrote that she had undergone an emergency surgery.

The post has been shared over 75,000 times with responsive donors.

A Facebook event page called “Help Lucy Hill Blood Donation Rally” has also been created.

Those interested in helping Lucy can get tested and donate their blood at Maharaj Nakorn Chiangmai Hospital. Be sure to attribute your blood to Lucy Anne Hill, a patient at Rajavej Hospital Chiang Mai.

Coconuts has reached out to Darren Burns regarding the accident, but he was unavailable to for comments at the time of publication.
