Emergency Decree extended until July

The cabinet today signed off on extending the state of emergency until the end of June.

As proposed last week by the National Security Council and endorsed by the COVID-19 task force, the Emergency Decree will remain in force until at least June 30, the cabinet approved made official this afternoon.

Though reports of local coronavirus transmission have remained low and no new deaths were reported today, public health officials insist it was necessary to suppress the ongoing coronavirus outbreak through necessary measures to prevent more infections. However, the extension has been blasted by critics as a bid to control the public rather than protect its health.
