An elderly taxi driver who stopped to urinate into a drain last night at a west Bangkok gas station instead fell down to his death.

Suwan Phromnok, 64, was found at the bottom of a hole 1 meter by 50 centimeters wide at the Caltex gas station in Bangkok’s Bang Khae district. Only tires surrounded the sewer drain; no grate covered it. The Nakhon Ratchasima native was found in a fetal position with water up to his chest level.

His wife, 67-year-old Lauei Muenjai, speculated that he had gone to the gas station to repair his taxi around noon and decided to drink with his friends until evening, at which point the work still wasn’t finished.

As he was about to head back home, he drunkenly tried to urinate down the drain only to fall down and drown.

Police Lt. Ekachai Innimit said that Suwan’s body was sent to Siriraj Hospital to determine his cause of death. The police will review CCTVs in the area to gather evidence.

Next time if nature calls, please use the gas station toilets, however unsanitary that may be.
