Following closely on the heels of a social media centered campaign to curtail drunk driving, the Department of Special Investigations (DSI) is considering employing Facebook to ferret out illegal workers in Phuket.
The DSI has proposed creating a Facebook page that would allow citizens of Phuket to upload photos of illegal foreign workers, who would then face prosecution.
This initiative comes on the heels of widespread complaints from Phuket-based tourism industry workers, who have watched in recent months as foreigners have increasingly come to dominate the island’s tourism sector.
The Phuket Gazette reports that many foreigners are using Thai “ghost owners” to register businesses that employ and benefit foreigners only.
