DSI says luxury cars were involved in tax evasion scam

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) has revealed that its initial inspection of seized luxury cars has confirmed its suspicion that the vehicles were related to a tax evasion scam.

According to DSI chief Tarit Pengdith, the agency officially started its inspection of luxury cars yesterday. Five Mercedes Benz vehicles were investigated at the Thailand Post HQ on Chaeng Watthana Road.

Four of the five cars inspected showed evidence that they were related to a tax evasion scam, Pengdith said. There are a total of 548 luxury cars in the list of suspicious vehicles apprehended by the DSI. Most of these cars were declared as imported parts, though the vehicles were shipped into Thailand more-or-less intact, the Bangkok Post reported.
