A British woman set her bedroom on fire with a cigarette last night and threw police out of her Pattaya home once it was extinguished.
Firefighters and police arrived at the home of a British family to find Marie Morrison, 43, and her husband Steven Brewster, 49, arguing while their second-floor bedroom was ablaze. The couple seemed intoxicated, according to police.
After putting out the fire, which was spreading, police attempted to calm the couple down, at which point police said Morrison demanded they leave and closed the door, as they refused to go to the station for questioning. Her husband reportedly fled from the scene.
According to the report from Pattaya Today, Brewster said his wife lit a cigarette in bed and came down stairs without putting it out. He soon smelled burning mattress and rushed upstairs to find the bed on fire. Then he called his children to help throw the mattress into the pool downstairs.
Their neighbors told the police it wasn’t the first time Morrison set their bed on fire. They said that just last week she also forgot a cigarette on her mattress. She also drove through their fence after an altercation with Brewster, something the neighbors said happens often.
Authorities asked the neighbors to keep an eye on the British couple and alert them immediately if something goes wrong, Khaosod reported.
