Drowned man rushed to get off boat before it stopped at pier, say boat operators

Police have questioned the Saen Saeb Canal boat operators following a tragic accident this morning where a man who fell into the water and drowned at the moment he tried to get out of the boat.

Makkasan police said they are considering charging the boat’s captain and conductor, Wichian Thamsamer and Pornchai Saeyao, for their reckless operation which led to the death of a passenger.

Contrary to the footage that shows the boat only slowed down at the pier, the boat operators told the police that they always stop the vehicle, but the deceased rushed to get out of the boat.

They said the boat conductor always tightens a rope to dock, but many passengers jump out of the boat before it stops, Voice TV reported.

The deceased was identified as 50-year-old Theerapong Silasit.

His family said Theerapong used the boat service regularly. He was also injured in the boat’s engine explosion in March, which also happened in Saen Saeb Canal.

The investigation is ongoing.
