Driver arrested for beating, robbing Chinese tourist

A taxi driver was arrested Sunday for allegedly assaulting and robbing a tourist on her way to Don Mueang airport.

Police said Sompoj Krutpuak, who they arrested in the Taling Chan district, confessed to the incident last week involving a 20-year-old Chinese woman was a passenger in his cab.

Fortunately she escaped the Thursday assault with only minor injuries on her legs after Sompoj allegedly punched her in the stomach several times. The suspect took her suitcase containing THB3,000, RMB500, a bank book, plane ticket and clothes.

Of the money, Sompoj said he’s already spent THB1,200 on taxi rental fees and blew the rest on gambling and “entertainment.”

The victim has confirmed Sompoj’s identity as her attacker. He will be charged for robbery, according to the Bangkok Post.
