Good baguettes in Bangkok? They exist from Urban Pantry

It used to be that the Bangkokians had to head to Vietnam or Laos for fresh and delicious bread and baguettes. Thailand managed to evade French colonization and therefore evaded the awesome bread-making knowledge that came with it… but now things have changed.

Now bread lovers can now have artisanal bread delivered right to their door through Urban Pantry, a new web-based business catering to clients fond of breads and spreads.

Urban Pantry works like this: clients on the Urban Pantry email list download a weekly Excel file profiling their latest menu of artisan breads and enter the quantity they’d like to receive. Orders must be in by the end of Tuesday and the hot ‘n’ ready bread is delivered on Friday to all major areas around Sukhumvit. There is a THB50 delivery charge, or you have the option of picking it up at BKK Bagel Bakery in Chidlom for free. The entire ordering process can be done through an iPhone or laptop, as it’s simply an email exchange.

To be added to the list email: urbanpantrybangkok@gmail.com.

Last week we ordered the Sage Cheddar Batard and found that it was exactly what Bangkok was missing—the kind of bread that’s significantly better than what you’d find at Au Bon Pain..

They also offer a selection of cream cheese and spreads that go perfectly with their bread offerings. We loved the French Onion Dip with the Traditional White Sourdough.
