A master of puppets along with a musician, writer, painter and singer were among a dozen people to receive the nation’s second-highest distinction for their cultural contributions.
Twelve people will be bestowed the title of National Artist of Thailand next month for their work in the visual, literary and performing arts, according to the Ministry of Culture.
They include actor/director Patravadi Mejudhon, classical music master Dusadee Banomyong, acclaimed writer Chamaiporn Sangkrachang, actor Sa-ard Piempongsarn, painter Chavalit Sermprungsum, architect Nit Hincheeranant, artist Boonchuey Hiranwit, shadow puppet master Narong Janpoom, folk singer Pongsak Jantarukkha, Thai classical musician Sirichaichan Fakjamroon, architect Charoon Angsavanont and artist Panya Vijinthanasa.
Since 1985, the program recognizes artists for their contributions and also entitles them to a monthly salary, health benefits, as well as money for funeral expenses and production of a memorial biography.
The ceremony will be held on Feb. 24, which is National Artist Day.
